On 9 album, Damien Rice have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. This eleven-song debut EP shows the promise that Damien Rice has. After debuting at No. 1 last week, Damien Rice’s album 9 falls to No. 2 with 506,000, a sales slide of 75%. Smart music for smart people.
Grey Room is possibly the most mysterious and inexplicable track Damien Rice ever produced.
9 Crimes has a beautifully haunting disco flavor. Elephant is kind of track that compels you to skip back and drink it in one more time before moving on through 9. Rootless Tree is another strong production from Damien Rice. Coconut Skins is a good listen every once in a while. The sound of Dogs is difficult to describe, as it seems to squirm in a sensual manner, unlike anything ever created. I have all of Damien Rice’s tracks and Me, My Yoke, and I is probably the most his introspective effort. Vocals of Damien Rice in Sleep Don’t Weep really capture me and are set perfectly to the rhythm. Accidental Babies is a catchy, up-tempo track that has influence of music streams without leaning too much in that direction. This track is a fabulous selection of easy listening, suitable for any age, taste or occasion.
