On Out of the Blue: 30th Anniversary Edition album, Elo have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. After seeing Turn to Stone, I had to have a good Elo cd. eight years ago, Elo briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “It’s Over”. Smart music for smart people.
Music in Steppin’ Out is marvelous as in all tracks of Out of the Blue: 30th Anniversary Edition.
Elo is hitting on all cylinders in It’s Over. Sweet Talkin’ Woman is a bit different from Elo stereotypical stuff. Musically Across the Border is superior to other tracks in Out of the Blue: 30th Anniversary Edition. One of the more genuine-sounding songs is Night in the City. This track is just fantastic from start to finish. Jungle is worth the money. The sound of Believe Me Now is difficult to describe, as it seems to squirm in a sensual manner, unlike anything ever created. First time I heard Standin’ in the Rain was on radio driving in my car and sonically it just sounded amazing.Big Wheels gives taste of what makes Elo special as a musician. Listening to Summer and Lightning you can hear that Elo has still amazing chemistry with band members. This track is a great song that still never gets old. Elo emotions are reflected through Sweet Is the Night. This is one of those tracks that should not be judged after the first hearing. Although Birmingham Blues is very melodic it is far from sad. Wild West Hero is pretty funky and mellow.
