No Henry Mancini song has come close to capturing my attention as Midnight Cowboy did.
Blue Satin hits the heart. I can’t stop playing (Theme From) Hatari!. Although I prefer the faster paced music, I think Baby Elephant Walk is my favorite song on The Best Of…. The Summer Knows is a cool song and it grows on you. Till There Was You is one of these floating songs. Evergreen one of the best in my collection. The Shadow Of Your Smile - Henry Mancini first major hit. In Charade (Opening Titles) it becomes nowhere more obvious that Henry Mancini has yet to define own style. First time I heard By The Time I Get To Phoenix was on radio driving in my car and sonically it just sounded amazing.Love Is A Many-Splendoured Thing has a beautifully haunting disco flavor. This track is clearly meant to showcase Henry Mancini’s vocal abilities. The Windmills Of Your Mind is simple, dignified and effective, Henry Mancini refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. Experiment In Terror is a very catchy tune. I like Mr. Lucky because it’s extremely catchy and has awesome drumming. Peter Gunn is the album’s biggest hit, I think. I’ve found myself listening to Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head back to back and back many times. (Theme From) Love Story is absolutely incredible. Moon River is a medium tempo tune. A Shot In The Dark is a fine track on any terms. Voice and instruments in Days Of Wine And Roses complement each other. There is perfect mix of music in Pink Panther Theme. Breakfast At Tiffany’s the elegant and beautiful song on the album is hard to describe.
