This ten-song debut EP shows the promise that James Brown has. Lead single “Cold Sweat” and “There Was A Time” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of James Brown on ‘Cold Sweat’. This album is in perfect progression from James Brown!
Such hits like I Feel All Right will leave you hooked.
There Was A Time is probably one of James Brown’s biggest successes for the album - it’s lovely to listen to. Let Yourself Go was the first single release from the album Live At The Apollo 1968 - Part 1. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: Kansas City, which shows, blatantly, how much James Brown has evolved as a singer. Thanks is the albums biggest surprise. This track is full of harmonies and gets Live At The Apollo 1968 - Part 1 off to a relaxing start. I Want To Be Around (Violin Accomp. By Sylvia Medford) - I like this one. In Think (Vocal Duett With Mara Withney) full palet of sound is used by James Brown to accentuate the presentation. Music in Introduction is excellent as in all tracks of Live At The Apollo 1968 - Part 1.
