This twelve-song debut EP shows the promise that Vangelis has. I am not a real New Age music type of person, but i have to admit ‘Direct’ really is amazing. Stanley Donwood has compared writing for Vangelis’s new album to that on ‘Direct’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. Such great and happy songs.
First Approach - This one has a powerful beat and a good melody.
Vangelis allows each song to breathe and flourish. Metallic Rain is astounding. Elsewhere - a classic song. Dial Out is a romantic if not formulaic ditty. Music in Glorianna ( Hymn A La Femme…) is cool as in all tracks of Direct. This is one hell of a track. The Oracle Of Apollo - This is a very lively song. Some call Message from Direct as a quiet invitation of an artist to sit and listen. Ave stands out to me for its audacious melody and sheer beauty. Vangelis must have run out of lyrics on the next track Intergalactic Radio Station.
